I was in my office and the toaster dinged when it finished. I unplugged it and tossed it outside on my lawn. I think of how many times my 13-year-old has used this. I can’t believe how many have this same issue and nothing has been done.
It wasn’t the worst cleaning we’ve had to do in the kitchen, but it’s one of the reasons we’re not likely to use this oven for greasy or splattery foods. The Black and Decker 4-slice toaster is an absolutely awesome toaster that serves a very useful purpose in many kitchens, including mine. I use my Black and Decker toaster for breakfast all the time, whether I am toasting sourdough bread or frozen waffles. It is seriously incredible how even old, frozen, packaged waffles come out of this toaster like they are new and fresh – perfectly toasted to a golden perfection with a crispy surface.
If the nichrome wire is broken or faulty then the other side of the toaster won’t toast. If the ‘Bagel” function has not been selected, then move on to the black decker toasters next step. This is usually controlled by a dial or a lever on the front of the toaster. If the toast continues to burn, the thermostat must be reset.

When we cooked fish sticks and jalapeno poppers, we turned the oven on ahead of time, letting it heat for a minute or two before the food went in. The bottom dial has icons for several toast levels as well as time up to 30 minutes with a single “ding! Turning in the opposite direction sets the oven to stay on. We usually chose that option and checked the doneness of the food as it cooked, sometimes setting another timer to warn us when to peek at the food.
So I just take those out and dump the crumbs into the garbage. Every so often I wash the crumb trays in the sink with a little warm water and soap. It’s black decker toasters very easy to clean, and not a hassle at all. I can see this toaster lasting for many years to come as long as I take care of it and clean it properly.
It was very fast, serving up dark toast in under 3 minutes. When we toasted five 2-slice batches in a row on medium, we got ten slices of identical toast in about 6 minutes. How great when you’re making BLT’s for a bunch of hungry kids!
