A Compact Treasure Trove: The Weber Q 2200 Review 2022 Update

Portable grilling gets an upgrade by the masters at Weber. The 2200 is an attractive little grill if I do say so myself. It has a tan lid with the Q series logo on top, and it’s made up of a cast aluminum lid and body supported by a reinforced nylon frame. The brand also sells cast iron griddles you can swap in for more versatility. The Weber Q 3200 has the largest cooking area of all the Weber Q gas grills with 393 square inches of grilling space. The Q 3200 also comes with a stand for the grill, making it the only freestanding Weber Q model.

Just set up the grill so that the lid opens away from the wind, creating a natural wind barrier. It also works very well in temperatures below freezing, for those of you crazies who insist on doing that. I feel there one massive strike against it being genuinely portable. It’s around 30 lbs and is a bit cumbersome to transport without wheels. Out of the box, it feels a little clunky and awkward. It isn’t the type of grill you would be willing to carry very far.

Ideal for cooking hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, steaks, and veggies. When it comes to other items such as roasts or ribs, you may find that the lid is a little too shallow and the cooking area is just a bit too small. The Weber Q 2200 has the same features as the Q 2000, but also has the additional feature of the built-in thermometer. This isn’t the typical Weber Q experience, but the regulators can be problematic.

The grill grates are the toughest part to clean, but they are small enough that they will fit in a dish tub to soak when you’re away from home. There is also a very durable porcelain coating covering the grates. Preheating is a requirement because if the grates aren’t hot, your food could bake right on.

We weigh everything that goes into our RV and our Q1200 is a bit less than 23 lbs without the propane bottle. The weight that everyone seems to quote in their reviews is lbs and that is the shipping weight, not the actual weight of the grill. As I mentioned earlier, the materials used to make all the main parts are either cast aluminum, stainless steel, or glass-reinforced nylon. All of these materials will hold up exceptionally well in most situations, given that the grill is stored correctly when not in use. By that, I mean, don’t leave it outside in the elements and expect it to look pretty in five years. From there, it was simply a matter of checking the drip pan.

An adaptor hose can easily convert to a 20lb propane tank. This is far more cost-effective and won’t leave you running out of propane halfway through cooking a meal. The smallest of the Weber Q models, these grills are hard to beat when combining quality with portability. Perfect for small families wanting to barbecue at the beach or the park. Fantastic for tailgating or to use on your next camping trip.
