They have an audio reproduction that adapts to each listener. However, they tend to have a bit more high bass and low mids than the original Beats Studio Wireless. This gives them less thump and rumble and slightly muddies their sound. They’re still sufficiently well-balanced to satisfy most listeners. However, their somewhat inconsistent audio reproduction and poor soundstage due to their closed design mean they won’t be ideal for more neutral listeners.
Like many over-ear headphones, the Beats Studio3s are a mostly matte plastic build with plenty of soft padding along the headband. This way they’re comfortable for extended jam sessions. In my testing, I found the softness of the headband extended to the ear cushions with added breathability. On a warmer day or sitting in a room with the heat on, my ears sweat a bit, but the padding allows them to cool down. All Apple devices with the same iCloud account are seamlessly connected to the Beats3 headphones. Those users who utilise all Apple devices can therefore switch between phone, watch and computer without any music interruption.
The headphones ship with a micro USB charging cable that connects to the right earcup, as well as an audio cable for wired listening. In fact, the headphones don’t work in passive mode, which is odd. Okay, having gotten the nitpicks out of the way, pairing is where these headphones shine. Of course, this is also true for any of Apple’s other W1-chip headphones — so you don’t have to pony up for a giant set of over-ear headphones if that’s not your style.
The headphone can not be used in noise cancellation mode with Bluetooth turned off and the audio cable disconnected. However, the Sony have a better noise isolation performance, their sound profile is customizable using their companion app’s graphic EQ and presets, and they support multi-device pairing. The Beats Studio3 Wireless are better headphones than the Beats Solo Wireless. The Studio3 are over-ear headphones that are more comfortable and have a good-performing ANC feature.
The Sony feel slightly more premium and sound a bit more neutral, but with a small excess in thump and rumble. Additionally, you can customize their sound to your liking easily inside the Sony app, which Beats is lacking. The ANC of the Sony is also noticeably better and will block out more ambient noise. On the other hand, the Beats have an audio cable with an in-line mic.
Our results are only valid for our unit, and yours may perform differently. They’re comfortable, have a decent noise isolation performance, and have low leakage. This means they should rarely be distracting to those around you and should block enough chatter for a moderately noisy office. Their 23 hours of continuous battery life should also be enough to get you through a couple of workdays. The Studio3 has round ear cups and slightly less padding than the overly comfortable Bose models.
In comparison to the Studio3 Wireless, they have a similar battery life, active noise-canceling, and virtually-flawless Bluetooth connection. They also have a soundstage that could blow Beats into space. They may cost the same as the Studio3 Wireless, at $350, but they are more than worth the money. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are better headphones for neutral sound than the beats flex review Wireless. Although they’re both closed-back, over-ear headphones, the Audio-Technica have a more neutral sound and a slightly better passive soundstage. However, unlike the Audio-Technica, the Beats are wireless and they have controls, a microphone, and active noise cancelling, making them more versatile headphones overall.
It struggles to separate your voice from ambient noise, even in moderately loud environments. These headphones come with a sturdy and compact hard case that can protect the headphones against scratches, mild water damage, and falls. They fold into a more compact format that’s easier to transport with the provided hard case. While they won’t fit in a pocket, they can be placed in most small bags, but they’re still quite bulky.
These assessments of course pertain to the wireless output of the Studio3, which is how they’ll primarily be used. Sometimes the wired and wireless audio quality can differ significantly on the same headphone, especially when ANC is involved. We love the beats flex review balance that Beats has struck between accuracy and a fun, musical sound. We were exceedingly satisfied with the padding of the ear pads, but head cushion left to be desired – and the material is a lint magnet.These are indeed minor complaints, though.
