Spirit Series Gas Grills

In 2021, Weber introduced a line of smart grills that we chose not to test. The app also has recipes and a step-by-step feature that sends alerts to your phone when it’s time to tend to your food. All of these extra gadgets require power, and the Genesis Smart Grill takes 10 batteries. The Wi-Fi module alone uses six D batteries, but there is an option to power that part with a power bank.

After years of testing grills, we can’t think of a better deal for a great grill than the Original Weber Kettle, which has been our favorite charcoal grill for almost 10 years. Cooking with charcoal is not as convenient as turning a dial and walking away, but we love a Weber kettle for its simplicity and durability. It’s a classic backyard staple, and it can fit up to 12 burger patties to feed a crowd—the same as the Spirit II E-310, but for less than half the price. Even though we didn’t officially test the Spirit II E-210, we did test its predecessor, the Weber Spirit E-210 .

What’s more, the grease management system is easily accessible from the front, making it a breeze to get to it. There is also the fact that you don’t have to worry about running out of fuel again. This is great for larger cookouts – you always know when to keep a reserve on hand. Especially with larger cuts of meat, you can simply insert the probe and occassionally check your app to see how fast the meat is cooking. That being said, it is a nice way to enjoy upgrades with your Weber Spirit II E 310 without having to splurge on high end models.

The two side tables offer you plenty of space to keep seasonings and plates at the ready. The cook box is made of cast aluminum and the lid is porcelain coated and mounted with a digital thermometer. A warming rack and fold down left side shelf are included with Spirit II. The left and right side shelves have integrated tool hooks. Both sizes have the same features and are available in LP and natural gas models. LP models have Weber’s Fuel Gauge, which estimates your gas tank level by weight.

Evenness of heating over the grill’s surface at the highest and lowest setting using all main burners plus the evenness after a 10 minute preheat, using thermocouples. The grates also take a beating, and eventually most start to rust. That’s not necessarily a problem in itself, because you can oil iron grates and season them as you would a cast-iron skillet.

A grill that is both durable and easy to repair creates much less waste than a cheapo grill that ends up in the garbage. We chose grills with fireboxes made of cast aluminum because the firebox is a major part of the grill, it’s difficult to replace, and aluminum is resistant to rust and corrosion. Cheaper grills have thin enameled steel fireboxes that are prone to damage and holes from rust.
