Philips Norelco OneBlade Review: an Electric Shaver with Disposable Blades

But to achieve the perfect shave there is a learning curve that needs to be overcome. Admittedly my first shave was not all that great, which lead me to read up on proper shaving technique. During shaving, only the remaining battery and shaving speed indicators are visible. While I am waiting for the battery to charge I will take you through what each indicator means.

You can edge by inverting the blade and pressing it to your skin. When you’re shaving, the OneBlade goes flat against your skin and can go in either direction. Tilting it to an angle, to where the coated teeth are against your skin, you can sharpen your beard’s edges or carve out a mustache .

Philips Norelco Shaver

Another strong aspect of the Series 9000 is that it’s very easy to clean, just by taking off the top and sluicing it out. What someone really needs to come up with is a device to then remove the shredded stubble from your sink, but that appears to be beyond mankind’s science, so far. When used with the Philips GroomTribe app, the shaver provides real-time feedback to users on their shaving patterns including pressure, speed and motion, as well as personalized shaving plans and tips. They’re a big name brand that makes everything from entry-level trimmers, like the OneBlade, to high-end models that cost nearly $300, like the S9000 Prestige. •At the touch of a button, you can pop the heads open for an easy and thorough clean under the tap. As you can see, the difference between three shaver models are simply cosmetic and will in no way impact your daily use of the shaver.

Among electric razors under $50, the Remington F outperformed lower-end Braun and Panasonic models in our testing. Foil-based systems use one or more cutting blocks mounted beneath the thin metal head. The foil’s perforations guide the whiskers into the block, where a pair of opposing Philips Norelco Shaver blades slice them off. The action is more like what you’d get from a pair of scissors than from a knife. Rotary shavers use similar perforated surfaces to guide whiskers toward their cutters, but instead of snipping, hundreds of tiny blades slice hairs with a circular motion.

Their prices go up and down like rollercoasters, and you will frequently find that the most high-end razors somehow cost less than the more bog-standard ones. For instance, normally I would say the Series 9000 Prestige – the absolute crème de la crème of male shaving – is overpriced. But in today’s deals, it might suddenly be the same price as a Braun Series 9, or even less. It’s tempting to think that the Series 9000 Prestige is all about the gimmicks. Philips’ most expensive high-end shaver ships with a fancy, glowing, wireless QI charger, a carry case and a clever click-in trimmer which does a great job of sorting out your sideburns. It sports a futuristic design, complete with a digital battery indicator, and takes around three hours to charge wirelessly, after which it will shave for around 60 minutes.

Shave it off – fast moving cutter to shave long hair, but not too close so your skin stays comfortable. This razor also performed well, but it Remington Shaver was another that just didn’t stand out overall. It was one of the closer shaves we got from a cartridge razor, and was solidly comfortable.
