Philips Norelco OneBlade Review: an Electric Shaver with Disposable Blades

So I must stress this, start the cleaning process AFTER you have shaved. Shaving in the shower feels weird, particularly if you have never done it before. The shaver seemed to work just as well as it did dry, with the water adding additional lubrication. Pressing down too hard or leaving the shaver stationary for too long will reward you with a nasty razor burn. USA, Japan, Australia, England… Wherever you travel you can be confident that you can be clean-shaven.

As you can see, I didn’t actually recommend any other rotary razors; as I said previously, in this price range , I think the Philips Norelco Shaver 2300 currently represents the best option. Finally, the aforementioned Panasonic Arc 3 is also worth considering, especially if you usually shave more often and want a closer shave. Because it’s very simple in its construction, the razor is very easy to use and to care for, making it a good option for beginners as well. While Philips doesn’t recommend it explicitly in the user manual, it’s probably a good idea to do a more in-depth cleaning of the cutters themselves every once in a while.

The new Remington Shaver 2300 is a basic rotary shaver that uses a typical shaving unit with 3 cutters. A couple drops of oil or a quick spray of cleaner can keep your razor in great shape and ensure a comfortable shave. For travel, Philips Norelco offers a hard case that’s considerably bulkier than those that come with the foil razors we tested.

If you choose to shave in the shower, you will need to be mindful of the areas where you have and have not shaved. Not as close as a wet shave but close enough for me to think “ooh, smooth” when I slid my hand over my cheek. Fortunately this is not really an issue thanks to the 5-minute quick charge feature. You can either charge the shaver with the SmartClean shaving dock or just with the adapter. The shaver ships with just enough juice left in the battery to beep angrily at you when turned on, prompting you to charge it, so you can’t expect to use this shaver straight out of the box.

Philips Norelco Shaver

2500 gives you a consistent, convenient clean shave. Self-sharpening ComfortCut blades, a pop-up trimmer, full-washability, and a storage pouch make the shaver easy to use and excellent value. A lot of shavers promise improvements in user safety, meaning their blades are less likely to irritate or even cut your skin. Philips Norelco, however, went one step further and rounded the teeth on both blades and covered the part you put flat on your face with a Glide coating.

Despite being quick to do, swapping the heads around can become annoying and after testing both the Braun and Panasonic shavers, I believe that a built in trimmer is definitely the way to go. Since this is also the same way that Philips expects you to “advance clean” your shaver heads, this system seems poorly designed. As you glide the shaver across the surface of your skin, hairs will stick up through the slots in the track and are cut by the spinning blade behind. Yup; despite being light weight and having a mostly plastic shell, Philips have manufactured an incredibly premium electric shaver. With travel lock on, your electric shaver will be unable to accidentally turn on at the bottom of your luggage.

If you remove the shaver from the unit before the 4 hours is up you will be rewarded with wet shaving heads. Now many experts say they rotary electric shavers have a habit of yanking out Braun Series 5 hairs because of the circular motion required instead of the more familiar up and down motion. I have annoying neck hairs that shoot off in every direction, right up to my jaw line.

Most electric shaver makers offer advice on how to get the optimal shave. Braun, for example, suggests shaving first thing in the morning. (“We recommend that you shave before you wash, since the skin tends to be slightly swollen after washing.”) Philips Norelco says to wash but not shower (“…otherwise your skin will be hot, puffy…”). Dan has dabbled with electric razors most of his adult life, and his technique is based mostly on saving time. Since he has two kids, he’s always in a rush first thing in the morning; when using a manual razor, he shaves in the shower.

It’s also washable for simplified cleaning—however, using it in the shower is not recommended. The clever Smart Hair sensor measures the density of facial hair 125 times per second and automatically adjusts the amount of pressure used to shave. The Motion Control sensor monitors your shaving style and directs you to a more effective one. To prevent your face from irritation, shaving heads are encircled by ComfortGlide rings, a unique protective coating with skin-gliding qualities. Sometimes all you need is a quick closet shave to smoothen out your stubble.
