Dyson Debuts First Robot Vacuum Cleaner, the Eye 360

It will clean well, and it doesn’t miss a lot, but compared to some of the earlier models with fewer features, it doesn’t do as good of a job as it should. Branding on the device suggests it will also use Dyson’s new Hyperdymium motors. This is simply Dyson’s name for its latest brushless electric motors, which have appeared in its most recent stick vacuums. It also looks like you can remove part of the internal tubing that connects the bin to the brushes. That would be a neat upgrade, as the 360 Heurist had a tendency to clog when vacuuming piles of large debris.

Overall the apps are far better than leaning over to press a physical button on the machines, and the ability to use them from anywhere makes them invaluable. I know for myself, I wasn’t always home when I needed to have a quick vacuum done. The 360 Degree Vision System of the Dyson model keeps the robot from banging into walls and obstacles.

The result of this was that there were several occasions when we were unable to use the vacuum. While it scored well in our larger debris pick-up tests, it scored poorly in our finer debris pick-up tests. The Dyson 360 Heurist aims to resolve these problems with a high-performing vacuum that claims to have 20% more suction than its predecessors.

When cleaning carpets, it captured 70-76% of large debris, so that was much better than it’s performance of cleaning large debris on hardwoods. Overall, the V6 collected 94% of debris on low pile carpet and 92% of debris on high pile carpet, averaging out all debris types tested. The design of the Dyson V8 is most similar to that of the Dyson V6 or V7 (see our V8 vs. V6andV8 vs. V7 comparison). It is a 2-in-1 vacuum that functions as a handheld or stick vacuum.

It doesn’t matter how powerful the motor is or how large the collection bin is if you don’t have extractor bars the dirt will never leave the floor. You have no doubt heard of the industry leader iRobot and their small army of Roomba vacs. Such low-tech activity prostheses and body-powered prostheses perform astonishingly well, for a tiny fraction of the cost of bionic hands. They don’t look or act like human hands, and they function all the better for it. Today, the company revealed it’s developing robots for the home that do more than just clean floors. Even with the camera based navigation, this robot will have issues cleaning glossy or black furniture.

But for those who can afford it, it is a really nice luxury item to have at home. If you just look at the specs, you’d think that the Dyson 360 Eye would be the best robotic vacuum available right now. If there is too little lighting, shark cordless the robot can wander and potentially run out of battery before it could go back to the dock and recharge. While cleaning power isn’t a question mark, there are some issues with the height, particularly cleaning under furniture.
