The sturdy build quality, indestructible shaft and quiet brushless motor make this trimmer—dare I say it—fun to use. I know my wife is intimidated by gas powered equipment, and I imagine it’s easier to get kids involved with electric stuff as well. With proper care/maintenance I expect 10 years out of a trimmer. I don’t expect the current iterations of battery operated tools will last 10 years, without factoring for the batteries which probably won’t make it that long either. I’d prefer to have the attachment system and a split boom. The shaft for the end part comes out of a coupler.
Plus, EGO states the carbon fiber shaft is so durable that they put a lifetime warranty on it. At this time, there is not much information available about this string trimmer’s pricing. We do know that your purchase includes a 56V 4.0Ah ARC Lithium battery. EGO also backs the carbon fiber shaft with a lifetime warranty.
Once I got through, though, the issue was resolved. The charger has small red and green lights that tell the battery’s condition. When charging, the green light will blink until the battery is fully charged and the light becomes a solid green. The charger has an internal fan to keep from getting too warm while charging. I had an older EGO trimmer with the metal shaft.
This model features a carbon fiber shaft, making it very strong, though the whole unit isn’t particularly light. I have a decent sized yard and can trim and edge twice on one charge with juice left over. The auto feed system works incredibly well. (But it’s doing its job. The cord length is always perfect) I’m 6′ and don’t have to hunch over which really saves my back. I attached a shoulder strap to the mount that came with it and it balances so well that I barely have to touch the trimmer outside of pulling the trigger. I tried the 2nd speed setting once but didn’t need it.
After the ten time in 30 mintes i boxed it back up and took ot back to the store. The trimmer also starts off strong for the first 30 seconds then tne power gets really weak. Maybe i got a bad one but ill never find out. The EGO Carbon Fiber String Trimmer runs $229 for the kit, which includes a 2.5Ah battery and charger. For those of you already on the EGO battery platform, the bare tool is available as well. The trimmer comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
Meanwhile overall I like the idea of the CF shafting I don’t like the foldable bit. Does their auto winder use the motor to rewind the string inside or it is some form of spring loaded. I think Stihl has a new setup that does something like autowind and the motor runs it back.
