Beats Flex Review: How Good Do Apples Sub-$50 Headphones Sound?

The sound is our favorite quality of the new Beats Flex. There’s not a ton of frills, but they do what they need to pretty well. There’s supposed to be an auto-play/pause feature when the buds snap together with their built-in magnets, but it didn’t work on our pre-release version. Apple’s built-in W1 chip makes for quick-and-easy pairing and syncing with iPhone.

It’s well-controlled and remarkably well balanced for what is essentially a pair of budget earbuds. Having been using the Powerbeats Pro and AirPods Pro for the past year-and-a-half, the bar beats flex review is set pretty high in terms of audio quality, comfort, and usability and I can’t say I’m overwhelmed by Beats Flex. There is a lot to be said, however, for a $50 pair of Apple headphones.

It uses Bluetooth 5.0 technology to provide low latency audio , which is useful when you want to avoid audio lag (e.g. when playing games). It is capable of a very high bitrate of 990kbps, which provides high resolution audio. It can also automatically adjust to a lower bitrate of 330kbps or 660kbps to increase stability. The USB Type-C features reversible plug orientation and cable direction. Devices with neodymium magnets are lighter and more powerful than those which use ferrite magnets. The earbud form is ultracompact and lightweight, with little or no interference with earrings, spectacles, hats, or hairstyles.

The Beats usually have an enhanced bass and they are louder than the Boss. However, the Bose has a built-in equalizer that makes sound smoother. But it also causes the sound to be different from the original.

And the Beats Flex have fared decently enough on my Zoom and phone calls in the few days I’ve been wearing them, with others hearing me loud and clear. Bluetooth signal has also been steady; dropouts tend to be less of a problem for neckband earbuds. We’d recommend the Beats Flex if you love Beats and want a second pair of wireless earbuds. You can throw them in a bag and take them with you as a back-up.

Class 1 Bluetooth removes the need for wired connections and complex set-up sequences. However, it did take us a while to find the ideal tip for our ears.
