It’s a good idea to let all the parts dry thoroughly before re-use, especially if you don’t plan to use the coffee maker for a couple of days. Fill it with a maximum of 2.5 scoops of your favorite ground coffee. Then, clean up around the edge, ensuring there are no stray ground coffee bits. For many people, there’s no better way to start the day than with Hamilton Beach a great cup of coffee. But today’s coffee makers do far more than brew a pot of joe. Some grind beans, others froth milk for lattes and macchiatos, and a few even brew iced coffee.
For single-serve machines, our engineers evaluate the temperature and size consistency of individual cups of coffee. And for cold-brew coffee makers, engineers assess ease of cleaning, and taste testers judge each brew. The manual advises that if brewing four cups or less, you should add 1½ scoops of coffee beans per cup, so we added six scoops. We also hit the 1-4 cup button for this brew; it isn’t essential that you do this, but Cuisinart says it will improve the flavor of the resulting drink.
And you’ll have to clean the grinder occasionally, which is an additional chore. If you ever want to use pre-ground coffee, you have the option to turn the grinder off. With this machine, you get both a reusable coffee filter to save you the bother and expense of buying paper ones and a water filter to improve the taste of tap water. A light comes on to let you know when the DCC-1100BK needs an internal cleaning. Our only gripe is that it can be difficult to fill the tank with water without splashing.
If you or your family members enjoy other beverages like tea or cocoa, you may want to look for a hot water dispenser. Some machines will make decent cups of different kinds of coffee, but they don’t do the best at any of them. The trade-off is more money in your pocket and more available room on your counter. Manual models don’t have timers, so you won’t be able to set them ahead. They’re typically very simple to use and may also be smaller and less expensive.
