The earphones look like they’d be good for the gym, but there’s actually no IP rating, so we can’t recommend wearing them in the rain, getting them sweaty, or rinsing them off. That said, Beats reps inform us that the USB-C connector is waterproof, and the buttons are sealed to prevent potential beats flex review liquid ingress. So there is a degree of water resistance here, but without a rating to give us a concrete idea of just how water resistant the earphones are, you’d be wise to avoid getting them wet. The in-ear fit is secure, particularly because the design eliminates any cable tug.
The Flex are very much designed for day-to-day casual listening so that’s just fine. They don’t isolate you from outside noise all that well compared with some competitors, however. They cost just $50, far less than most Beats headphones, and are a pair of wireless earphones with a neckband.
Beats seem to be better in terms of battery life and device compatibility also. Bose has a better noise cancellation feature and it is comfier to wear. The Powerbeats pro is the best headphones for sports and fitness activities than the Flex.
Comfort is great, and you can wear them all day long without experiencing fatigue. However, the fit isn’t ideal, as earbuds quickly pop out during light sports activities. Speaking beats solo pro wireless of chips, despite having one, a companion app for Android gives you the ability to check battery status percentages and lets you customize features, just like on an iOS device.
Some people have complained that the BeatsX’s magnets weren’t strong enough, but the Flex’s buds adhere together nicely, so the magnets appear to be stronger. The connection strength of the Beats Flex is great, especially when compared to its true wireless counterparts. This rocks Bluetooth 5.0 and supports the SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs.
The earphones are compatible with Bluetooth 5.0 and support AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs, but not AptX. A Class 1 Bluetooth rating means they support connections up to 300 feet, which is well beyond the typical 30-foot range you get with most Class 2 Bluetooth devices. Besides that, they offer basic functionalities without app support or dedicated chips for faster Bluetooth pairing.
For example, iTeknic IK-BH001 manage to have 24 hours in a similar form factor. Earbuds lack an official IPX rating or sweat resistance, meaning that even a sweaty workout can pose a problem. The first impression of wearing the Beats Flex and testing it with some music was just okay – compared with the Powerbeats Pro, or even the Powerbeats 2020. However, that costs A$329 so it’s not really a fair comparison with Flex’s A$79.95. Apple’s solution to not including headphones with the new iPhone seems to be the Beats Flex. Fortunately, Flex is a budget pair of Beats that pack the premium audio quality you’d expect from Apple and Beats, but for a fraction of the price of AirPods. However, they are missing a handful of the features we’re used to seeing from Beats and they have a semi-awkward neckband design.
Hopefully, this is a sign that Apple will soon ditch lightning cables altogether so that we can have one USB charging standard to rule them all. Fortunately, there’s an impressive 12-hour battery packed into these headphones, and even more impressive is the Fast Fuel feature that gives you 1.5-hour of battery life from a 10-minute charge.
