Can You Put A Frame Mounted Engine On A Schwinn Meridian Trike?

My question about “drive side” was related to fact that usually in such drives one wheel connects harder to the ground while other just slides most of time. People who serviced trike hubs claimed that it’s often that one hub is worn out while other looks brand new because of this effect. Honestly few weeks ago I knew exactly which side should it be but I just forgot. Thanks, I know about delta trikes and I am also considering them, lowered center of gravity is great for stability not to mention comfortable seat.

On one hand, it’s a simple adult trike with a basket. On the other hand, Schwinn has a long history of making quality bikes of all shapes and sizes, unlike a Slsy Tricycle Three Wheeler. You always have to consider the basket more closely; it can help shave down your gas bill if you take this in lieu of your car for quick grocery trips. It’s also much cheaper than a Raleigh Tristar Tricycle.

Best suited for flat areas, this single-speed drivetrain is easy to use and simple to maintain, while the chain guard keeps your clothes and shoelaces free & clear. This fine piece of work came from Chop Shop Customs. Check first the tightness of the two hold-down screws on the rear axle drive sprocket. Sometimes these work loose, especially during the break-in period . Tighten these two screws down as hard as you can — this connection point takes a lot of stress, especially on uphill grinds.

Those large 26 inch wheels allow comfortable ride, also rear and front brakes work well. In overall – decent construction, completely sufficient for this type of bike. The benefits of the Schwinn Meridian Tricycle overshadow the drawbacks. With the ability to adjust the bar and seat, the bike can tailor the bike to your body. The handlebars provide an upright, comfortable riding posture that puts less stress over your shoulders than the other bicycles.

I live in a town where NO ONE does trikes or bikes, and I don’t have any way to take it somewhere to fix. That’s why three wheel ATC’s went away in favor of quads. Less so huffy cruiser bike the tads which have your weight mostly over the axle but I still had a few traction rolls. I was able to ride Dad’s Schwinn on two wheels, it wasn’t a difficult trick.

I’m building a motorized Schwinn trike as well, but mine’s like 30+ yrs old. I specifically chose those because of room in the back to put the motor and such. Upright ‘delta’ Trike braking is entirely on the front wheel, and tipping over in a corner as you describe…

The held fine and I have been on multiple rides now with this bike. The step-through frame also eliminates the bike mounting/dismounting difficulty I had trying to swing my leg over the back of a standard men’s bicycle. Everything’s strong enough to support a “plus-size” rider . Have you recently purchased an adult tricycle or have an experience you would like to share in exploring an adult tricycle? The bike is not designed with the provision to for an extra seat/child seat.
