DJI restocks its Phantom 4 Pro V2 0 drone, nearly a year after discontinuing it

On smaller sites (5-10 acres) the difference between the Phantom 4 Pro and the Phantom 4 RTK is negligible in terms of the number of control points needed. But, as the size of the site increases, the Phantom 4 RTK quickly differentiates itself from the Phantom 4 Pro. If you work on sites larger than 20-acres, then the Phantom 4 RTK is the clear winner. Alternatively, you could get away with shooting one GCP if you were flying the same mission with the Phantom 4 RTK.

The Plus model includes a built-in display on the remote control, otherwise, they are the same machine. DJI has released an update to this great drone, the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is updated in mostly the same way that the Mavic Pro Platinum improves over the original Mavic Pro. To be specific, new propellers and updated ESCs create more efficient and quieter flight.

What really interested us was the image quality from its integrated camera. Three flights at different heights were conducted to find out whether image resolution proves sufficient for photogrammetric processing and ensuring the highest accuracy. 80% overlap in both directions was applied just to be sure enough details got captured for testing purposes. 7x GCP and 2x independent validation points were set up for GCP based orientation and quality control. The Phantom 4 Pro intelligent flight modes make flying and producing meaningful aerial imagery so much easier.

When downloading offline maps, you can also choose to include elevation data and activate WingtraPilot’s Terrain Following feature in areas of the flight where mapping along a slope is required. Overall, the app is intuitive—you see and choose the settings that apply to your stage of flight prep. Although they are both marketed as survey and mapping drones, WingtraOne and Phantom 4 RTK have little in common. As a VTOL drone, the WingtraOne is a hybrid between a fixed-wing and a multirotor. It lifts off and lands vertically, but for flight it transitions into a fixed-wing mode. Phantom 4 RTK is a typical multirotor, which behaves in the air like a helicopter.

This is about as close as you can get to the drone with the objct sensors activated. If you move closer to it, the drone will move away to avoid you. TapFly – Using a mobile device again, you can tap the area that you want the Phantom to go to, and it will go there. Quick connector for light sensor accommodates fast field replacement/removal by the user.

The dji mini 2 fly more combo Pro does not make flight compromises to ease portability, and the price is north of $1000. This is a fast drone, it is rated for 45 mph at full tilt, but expect 31 mph while filming. Comparatively, the Mavic Pro flies at almost the same speeds, but it is a much more reactive drone. Responsiveness is fun while flying, but can be jerky for video recording. DJI offers many of the best flying features for the Phantom 4 Pro. There are follow modes and other self-piloting features, but they do not include the Quickshot features you’ll find on the Spark.

If you want to see if an area is open for flight before you head to a location, check Airmap.io. There are also downward-facing sensors, as seen in the Mavic Pro, which work with the existing Vision Positioning System to better stabilize low-altitude flight. The Phantom 4 Pro supports the Terrain Follow flight mode, which hugs the ground and maintains a safe altitude, even when flying over hilly land.

The base station also includes a charging station and two sets of batteries, as well as a remote control, telemetry module, and an anemometer to gauge wind. Data sets from all three flights were imported and processed separately. supports writing GPS coordinates to EXIF data of every individual image on the fly. It means no manual geotagging is needed when importing images to 3Dsurvey for processing. Further quality control was achieved by placing GCPs and establishing independent validation points.

In 2016, DJI bought a majority stake in Swedish camera maker Hasselblad and the quality of DJI lens is now exceptional. For quite a few professional uses of drones, waypoint navigation is essential. We cover this area below including some terrific 3rd party applications with excellent waypoint navigation for creating 3D images. An integrated spectral sunlight sensor on top of the drone captures solar irradiance, which maximizes accuracy and consistency of data collection through different times of day. When combined with post-processed data, this information helps to obtain the most accurate NDVI results. Agriculture imagery collection is now simpler and more efficient than ever before with a built-in stabilized imaging system that collects comprehensive data sets right out of the box.
