I tried the Weber Traveler, the new $325 collapsible, portable grill Here’s what happened

If you are just grilling up the meat portion, it is enough to cook 3-4 servings; if you are cooking just for two, it is ample room to grill up both meat and veggies. While it is incredibly easy to use, porcelain-enameled cast iron is meant to be treated with a level of respect commensurate with its cooking performance. Unlike a regular grill surface, you never want to use a wire brush, which will destroy the naturally non-stick coating. Instead, for heavy cleanings opt for a soft bristle or nylon brush. Read on for a hood-to-wheels review of the brand new Weber Traveler portable gas grill. The 320 has a grate space of 393 square inches, which isn’t as large as most of the other gas grills that we at Best Outdoor Grills have reviewed.

Weber creatively created the grates to ensure that any grease or drippings bypass the direct flame. Like most people, i don’t enjoy cleaning grills, but this model certainly made the experience a lot better. Once the grill cooled, I was able to easily pry off food and build up on the cooking grates. The porcelain coated cast iron grates made this a breeze to do. But behind that weight, you have a glass-reinforced nylon frame, supporting a cast aluminum body and lid, that cover a porcelain-enameled cast iron cook surface.

Eager to test the new grill and kickstart the cookout, I started the weber charcoal grill 1200 up and threw on some hamburgers and hot dogs. We have used this grill at several family reunions where everyone brought their own grills and it was great. It also really came in handy when our power went out in the winter and we were snowed in.

While its weight and lack of latching lid make it less than ideal for carrying into remote picnic sites, the Weber Q 1200 is the ideal companion for road tripping and car-camping. Many portable grills function to cook food but lack the finesse needed for grilling more than hot dogs and burgers. This one brings power and control to this category better than the competition. Originally labeled the “Baby-Q” this small member of the Q family is an excellently constructed little gas grill that gives you plenty of space and power for the size. The 189 square inches of cooking space is large enough to grill several steaks at once so you won’t have to grill in shifts.

Weber grills are known as being some of the best but how does the Q 2200 hold up? Well, with great temperature regulation, grilling capabilities, heat retention, and ease of use, it readily measures up. Within just a few minutes of preheating, this efficient grill is already weber genesis 2 pushing 500-degree temperatures. It is important to control the temperature off-the-bat if you plan on cooking more on the low-and-slow side. This means that the burner doesn’t need to crank out heat at nearly the same rate as other, less well-insulated grills.

The regulator unit unfortunately occupies the space directly underneath the handle. Even if you aren’t using a disposable bottle, you can really only hold the back third of the grip, resulting in a rather awkward carry until you remove the regulator for transport. In fact, Weber spent 5 years developing this line of portable grills. Next, I wanted to see how well I could control the temperature for lower-slower grilling candidates. There’s just one knob to control the fuel output and while the temp did drop when I lowered it, it was difficult to precisely control the temp one way or the other. That’s not uncommon with grills but if you’re looking for pinpoint low-and-slow cooking, this might not be the product for you.

Temperature control tends to run away if this grill still has room to heat, i.e., it has yet to achieve its maximum temperature. Still, our testers were able to control the heat of this grill better than other models. Like any gas grill, the Weber Q 2200 needs to be cleaned after each use, but it’s incredibly easy to do. Once the grill cooled down a bit after cooking, I used my wire brush to clean food and grease off the grates.
