This guard can be set to indicate the leading edge of the whirling string, so you can trim right up to—but not harm—your prized geraniums. It’s a nice feature—particularly for those who might not be used to handling a string trimmer. The Ryobi string trimmer head and a few of the other available attachments . It is cushioned with a foam padding, and even though it’s very comfortable , we do worry it could tear easily if snagged on a hook, a nailhead, or maybe even a rose thorn. Most other trimmer handles are plastic or have a thin layer of rubbery padding. Even after several years of using a similar Ego, however, we’ve found that the handle has held up well, with only one small tear.
It makes it very simply to find and understand how each mechanism works. I’m interested in battery powered lawn equipment. However, there are a few issues I still have with them.
Whereas the other EGO straight shaft trimmer has the motor at the battery and a drive shaft. It is attachment capable and they make an edger and hedge trimmer and blower attachments for it. EGO is the way to go for home owner, battery powered , lawn equipment no doubt. Weed Eater and WeedWacker are both brand names of string trimmers. Ryobi has two other attachment-capable 40-volt models, but neither matches the power of our runner-up pick. The Ryobi RY40230 comes with a smaller battery; the RY40250 has a brushed motor, not the brushless one on our also-great pick, the RY40270.
This small guard is used on other DeWalts we didn’t test, including the DCST925M1 and the DCST970X1S. At 11½ pounds, it’s about a pound and a half more than our pick, a weight that takes its toll after a while. On the Ego ST1511T, the motor is located down at the cutting head, in effect counterbalancing the weight of the battery. With this configuration, the balance felt slightly off, and it took a little more effort to swing the machine around.
Then, it’s quick to attach the guard and front handle. In 2021, we also looked at the larger Ryobi P20120VNM 18-Volt Brushless String Trimmer. This is a solid trimmer, and it has a nice feel to it.
It seems this Swiss made spray blower will work with Metabo 18V batteries, this brand just joined CAS with Metabo. We had some trees removed last winter, and a whole lot of tall weeds and grasses popped up in those areas that wrap around the perimeter of our property.
