The included box for the Phantom 4 fits everything you need to fly the drone. The drone itself is smaller than I expected, and fits rather neatly in its included polystyrene box. The box features a latch to keep it closed, and is intended to safely house and transport the drone. The controls of the Phantom4 do take some practice, but it’s the kind of thing that you’ll learn quicker via muscle memory – if I stopped to think which control would pan vs tilt for example, I got confused. However, if I just embraced the controls and corrected as I flew, I found it much easier. I find it absolutely incredible that something like this is possible at this price.
At any point during the flight, you can return to the RTK menu to view more details about the X, Y, and Z RMS Errors, as shown in the following image. This portrait prime looks to offer decent image quality considering the price point, but as it stands the lens isn’t available to purchase outside of China. High resolution, weather-sealed bodies and wide dynamic range are all important.

In a rural environment I flew the drone 4,250 feet away from my position before getting any sort of choppiness in the live video feed, at which point I turned it around and brought it home. In a suburban setting, crowded with homes and Wi-Fi signals, the Phantom flew 2,600 feet away from the launch point before the video signal became spotty. Both figures are in line with our dji fly tests—it flew 4,500 feet in a rural test spot and 1,800 feet in suburbia before the video signal began to cut out. The only drone that’s done better in our rural test is DJI’s tiny Mavic Pro, which flew a full mile away from launch without a stutter—I didn’t try to fly it any further than that.
It brings a new, 25MP sensor and 10-bit 4K capture at up to 120p. We’ve dug into a camera with some of the broadest and deepest video feature sets ever. I’ve owned a DJI Phantom 2 Vision, Phantom 3 Pro and now a Pro+. Very interested in the Autel dual camera unit but haven’t seen a price on the unit to this point.
It took a few flights for me to realise that whilst the battery life was limiting, you really need to slow your actions down whilst flying the phantom 4.
