APAS 4.0 worked well on the Air 2S so I’m expecting promising flights, weaving through trees in a forest near my house. The all new remote has a 10 km video transmission range and fresh ergonomic design. The Mavic 3’s 46mph top speed is just two more than the current Mavic 2 Pro which isn’t especially groundbreaking. However, its ascent speed is radically quicker – 18mph which means you can create sensational climbing footage without the need to speed it up in post production. I still remember the dji drones Phantom 2 Vision drone with its bulbous white camera and no gimbal.
Aside from all the camera improvements, DJI has also upgraded its autonomous features for the Mavic 3. Just like its predecessor, the Mavic 3 also shares omnidirectional obstacle sensing, except the sensors are now capable of detecting objects even 200m away, compared to 20m before. I’ve always found the sensor to be a bit too sensitive, so I’m curious to find out how they act now while near objects. The two drones are successors to DJI’s Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom released in 2018, which also introduced the first Hasselblad camera to be used in DJI drones after it acquired a majority stake in said company in 2017. But since 2018, we haven’t seen much Hasselblad branding in DJI products — until today.
QuickShots and MasterShots as featured on the Air 2S will also be added. MasterShots is an especially cool feature since it enables the drone to fly around on its own while it takes 10 different video sequences of a subject from a variety of angles. It then stitches the scenes together to produce a complete cinematic video – with zero input from the pilot. Crucially, the Mavic 3’s flight time extends to an amazing 45 minutes . This means cinematographers have more time to capture those money shots without the panic of a low battery alarm ringing in the ears.
Blame it on DaVinci and BM and not on DJI or others that these days give full support to ProRes. The older Smart Controller, the solution for the future which costs $749, will apparently not work with this drone. As usual with DJI, you’re supposed to dump your old gear and buy new everything.
I look forward to testing this after launch when I know it’ll be fully functional. The standard Mavic 3 supports memory cards up to 2TB and contains 8GB of onboard internal storage should you forget a card or run out of space. The Mavic 3 Cine contains 1TB of internal storage plus a memory card slot.

You can also independently control the camera while flying, choosing how to frame and focus your video footage or photograph. This unique technology surpasses WiFi as a transmission protocol, both in terms of quality, speed and range.
