Dji’s Phantom 4 Comes With Obstacle Avoidance And ‘speed’ Mode

In the age of continued UAS safety & scrutiny, never has the time been more right to implement a aerial safety recovery system. Without an effective backup system in place, every flight is an unnecessary risk that simply shouldn’t be taken. PhantomPilots is the leading online community for DJI Phantom drone enthusiasts and a member dji drones of the Drone Pilots Media Network. With over 6 million unique drone enthusiasts each year, we offer an incredible opportunity to promote your drone-related products or services. Below, Justin Russell, head surveyor at Fiore and Sons, describes how he’s reallocated his time after successfully adopting PPK drone surveying.

While in flight, the drone will automatically record its route and return along the same path while avoiding obstacles along the way, even if signal is lost. During takeoff, the Phantom 4 Pro will record the scene below its launch site and compare the recorded image to its return to ensure the same area is safe for landing. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro once again redefines the possibilities of aerial imaging by combining advanced technology, intelligence, and streamlined design to take aerial feats to all new heights. With the Phantom 4 Pro, beginners to professional drone pilots will be able to capture pro-level imagery and take their creative aspirations to an all new level. The controller features buttons that are mapped to tap functionality on your mobile device.

The Phantom 4 Pro features a new algorithm that is able to recognize and track a wide variety of subjects including vehicles, animals, and people. In Trace Mode, users can have the drone fly in front of behind any selected subject while the aircraft autonomously avoids objects in its path. In Profile Mode, pilots can have their Phantom fly alongside the profile of a subject. Finally, in Spotlight Mode, the drone will keep any selected subject center-frame while the pilot flies the drone freely in any direction.

Giving a top speed of 44.7mph , Sport mode can be used for fun, letting you fly faster than ever, or to get to your shoot location while the light is perfect. We’ll update firmware as the equipment moves through our building. However, as drone firmware is updated on an almost daily basis, the user must ensure the firmware is current before flight.

In terms of obstacle avoidance sensors, the Phantom 4 Advanced is just a hair behind the Phantom 4 Pro. The Phantom 4 Pro’s obstacle sensing system has five directions. There are three sets of visual systems that can be used to avoid obstacles behind, in front, and below the aircraft. Additionally, there is an infrared sensing device on each side. The obstacle sensor remains in the front and below of Phantom 4 Advanced. Improved flight modes, better object detection for better collision avoidance, a higher speed and greater flight time and distance are all important as well.

However, the legs are still fixed to the body, so while the body overall is more compact, you’re still not slipping this easily into an average backpack. Making most of these new features possible required a redesign. DJI streamlined the body and gimbal design, putting more of it inside the body.

The dji drones is certainly a great machine, made even better by a fair price. The Phantom 4, as mentioned, has a 1/2.3-inch camera sensor, the newer drones in the Phantom line come with a full 1-inch sensor. This new sensor has a mechanical shutter, captures 20 MP images and bumps the maximum video bitrate from 60 to 100 Mbps. This might seem exhaustive, but fully half of the functionality still yet to be covered is centered around the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V. 2.0’s obstacle avoidance, return to home functionality, and landing functions.
