At last a new watch was born, featuring a minimalist design with an octagonal bezel. The concept of the GA2100 delivered from the DW5000 and AW500. The all-black sombre elegance of the GA A1ER, the classic Casioak, pairs baby g shock well even with a nice olive green shirt and tailored chinos. The hidden benefit of slim wrists, is the ability to get even quite chunky watches under a nice cuff and, for me, these types of style contrasts rule.
No matter the model, I could never find my zone. Every G-Shock was polarizing on opposite ends of the spectrum to me. They seemed to be something designed for an operator training course or designed to match a retro pair of Jordan 4s that I’m not interested in. Therefore, if you find yourself trying to decide between a “classic” resin-cased “Casioak” GA-2100 and its recently birthed metal counterpart, the GM-2100, read on. The dials are treated with a vapour deposition finish in new navy blue, green and red hues to achieve appealing metallic colour g shock protection schemes. The watch band employs a square dot texture with incremental variations in dot size, resulting in a sharp look to match the face design. If you have owned a G-Shock or Casio AQ Tough Solar analogue/digital watch then the new 5611 Module hand operation will be intuitive and familiar.
The concept was realized with a rock-solid design that looked almost like it was carved out of a single block of resin, removing everything non-essential. The very first G-SHOCK — the DW5000 — debuted in 1983. Over the past year or so, I had been looking for a steel mod that I could use for one of my other Classic square G-SHOCK’s, and the array of options is dazzling, from plain polished steel to full-on rainbow finishes! The GA-2100 is a great-looking watch, and the reasonable US$99-$110 MSRP offers a great value. Whether purchased as a daily wearer or for the weekends and recreation, buying a GA-2100 is within most people’s budget and does not require a major sacrifice. The double LED with high luminance brightly illuminatesthe dial and LCD to ensure readability in the dark.

Wearing the GA-2100SU-A1JF made me feel like I was wearing a Royal Oak Offshore. Even lounging in sweatpants I was crushing it so hard. (Or at least I thought that I was.) The satisfaction to price g shock protection ratio was off the chart with the CasiOak on-wrist. By far the most distinguishing feature for the CasiOak is the octagon-shaped bezel. It’s done in a soft way that’s not too angular or awkward.
