This pandemic has given all of us an opportunity to try something new or explore an idea that we would have otherwise not had time to do. Thanks to being stuck at home, here’s what I decided to do with my new found time. For many years I’ve been had an interest in human powered electricity, and my first adventures pursuing those interests resulted in my pedal generator designs . I thought it might be a fun challenge to build a rowing machine generator.
• Excessive weight may cause a hazardous or unstable condition. Replace shaft housing, connecting to the shaft coupler. Unscrew the 3 screws holding the outer shroud on, remove shroud. Take magnet resistance parts and resistance cable out of bike trainer, along with the metal ring of magnets inside the outer shroud.
Measure and mark on the tape where to cut, then use a sharputility knifecut out the hole. Keep tracing the lines with the blade, pressing schwinn spin bike firmer and firmer until you cut through the plastic. I’m sure there is a better way to do this, but with patience this approach works.
The steering is done via two hand levers, and my son got the hang of it after a few rides. By pulling the levers in opposite directions, the bike is able to spin in 180° arcs. A helmet is absolutely necessary, as the bike may tip over when a spin is performed huffy beach cruiser at high speeds. The Huffy Green Machine is for kids ages 8 and up, and the Green Machine Jr. is for younger children (ages 5-8). The H2O version has limited legroom due to the water tank on the back of the bike and may not fit adolescents or adults.

A couple wood screws with duct tape on them serve as the stop or rest for the handle when not in use. A cushy bike seat – I chose this Schwinn model, but there are others like Cloud9 or Bikeroo. I used a 2×4 and a 3/4” pine board to get the right thickness. Some flat pedals more suitable for flip flops or even bare feet. I picked up some from the local bike shop, but these Sunlite pedals would be even better for barefoot riding. Wanted to extend a thank you for doing a great job at the green machines activity last week. The team really enjoyed the event and thought you did a wonderful job.
