The Estée Lauder Companies Closes Becca Cosmetics

We have a structured approach to nurturing talent, the environment and the well-being of communities where we operate. Estée Lauder was born Josephine Ester Mentzer to Hungarian Jewish immigrants in Queens, New York in 1908. The family lived over their hardware store, and prospered — but the young woman known as “Estelle” had dreams of great wealth. Blessed with beautiful skin, she soon married and launched her business.

With over 3,000 five-star ratings, users seem smitten, and some have even noted how well Revlon’s formula stacks up against Double Wear. Estée Lauder’s expanded QVC strategy follows that of sister brand MAC Cosmetics, which launched on-air in fall 2020. QVC was a bit of a surprising move for MAC since the former is known for its older customer of women 45 years old and above. But MAC remains a global beauty juggernaut and needs to pull many levers to maintain relevance and market share. In tandem with its QVC launch, MAC launched with Boots and Asos in 2020, released an Underground drop program, debuted AR try-on tools and launched regional influencer squads. In Esteé Lauder Companies’ fiscal 2021 second-quarter earnings, announced in February, Estée Lauder was called out as one of the brands that saw double-digit sales growth, alongside La Mer.

For its part, Estée Lauder, has seen growth in China via marrying influencer content with social media and livestreaming. According to Glossy-exclusive Launchmetrics data, which tracks where influencer content comes from, the Chinese version of TikTok, Douyin, represented 48% of Estée Lauder’s influencer voice in February. In fact, nine out of the 10 top posts for the brand were on Douyin, with one of their top-rated posts from the Chinese KOL, Austin Li, generating $343K from a single post. Estée Lauder has focused on growth in China for at least the past four years, according to Glossy reporting.

In 1967, Estée Lauder herself was named one of ten Outstanding Women in Business in the United States by business and financial editors. This was followed by a Spirit of Achievement Award from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in 1968. In that year, the company expanded again, opening Clinique, a dermatologist-guided (Dr. Norman Orentreich), allergy-tested, fragrance-free cosmetic brand.

Clinique products are sold in more than 100 countries and generate millions of dollars in revenue each year for its parent company. Estee Lauder has also placed a growing emphasis on cultivating relationships and sales in emerging markets. The Estee Lauder makeup company designs strategic marketing campaigns to boost sales in emerging-market economies, targeting affluent populations in such markets. Key emerging countries where the majority of the company’s focus lies include Mexico, Russia, and China.

Advanced Night Repair reduces signs of aging and is our best serum for everyone—women and men. Revitalizing Supreme+ Moisturizer, another Estée Lauder best seller, nourishes skin with deep hydration while delivering anti-aging benefits. Other moisturizer best sellers include the DayWear Collection which features face cream with SPF, eye cream, night cream, tinted moisturizer and more. With long-lasting hydration and powerful antioxidant and SPF protection, it helps diminish first signs of aging and prevent future signs of aging.

Some of the world’s biggest cosmetics companies including L’Oréal and Estée Lauder, as well as suppliers such as Merck, source mica from India, one of the top producing mica countries in the world. Last summer, in the wake of the George Floyd protests, Estée Lauder vowed to hire more Black employees, engage more with the needs of Black customers and purchase more products from Black-owned firms. “We have all taken time recently to grapple with the systemic racial injustice that has plagued the United States for far too long,” read a joint statement from executive chairman William Lauder, and Freda. Estée Lauder also donated $10 million to the NAACP and other civil rights organizations.
