With objects drawn primarily from the Estee Lauder NIGHT REPAIR archives, the exhibition includes a vast array of over two hundred haute couture garments as well as photographs, archival videos, sketches, vintage perfume elements, accessories, and works from the Museum’s collection. The haute couture on view exemplifies many of the French couturier’s fabled silhouettes, including the “New Look,” which debuted in 1947. Christian Dior S.A., more commonly known as Dior, is a French luxury goods company founded by Christian Dior, controlled by Bernard Arnault, who also heads LVMH. Fashion legends like Yves Saint Laurent, John Galliano and Christian Dior himself, built the impression of Dior relate to luxury, haute couture and desire.

Pop Smoke also mentioned the Dior brand in other songs, including Enjoy Yourself, “Shopping up in Saks Fifth with a cup of Actavis to get Christian Dior; Look, I be all up in the stores .” The Paul Gallico novella Mrs ‘Arris Goes to Paris tells the story of a London charwoman who falls in love with her employer’s couture wardrobe and decides to go to Paris to purchase herself a Dior ballgown.

Jisoo slipped into a white mini dress completed with black embroidered Greek statues and motifs. According to Vogue, the dress is from the Dior Resort 2022 collection. She styled the look with a pair of black platform heels and a glamorous gold handbag. In all, it was a simple yet chic and effortless look that shined on Jisoo. Moving away from the sober colors of his last collection, Ize used gold shimmer and bright patterns for an optimistic view of spring. A diaphanous curtain billowed as if it were underwater as models strutted out in aquatic themes, including swimming caps, scuba looks, a boxy T-shirt with “CARIBBEAN” on it and a large blue umbrella for a hat.

opens a luxury read-to-wear house in New York on Fifth Avenue. The original lines, titled Corolle and Huit, soon garnered the name the New Look and sparked a revolution in the fashion world. Its full-skirted silhouette collection gained Dior prominent clients from across the world. This exhibition is organized by the DAM and curated by Florence Müller, the DAM’s Avenir Foundation Curator of Textile Art and Fashion. It features exhibition design by internationally renowned architect Shohei Shigematsu, principal of OMA New York. Following its run at the DAM, this exhibition will travel to the Dallas Museum of Art.

In 1942, when Dior left the army, he joined the fashion house of Lucien Lelong, where he and Balmain were the primary designers. His sister, Catherine (1917–2008), served as a member of the French Resistance, was captured by the Gestapo, and sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she was incarcerated until her liberation in May 1945. In 1947, he named his debut fragrance, Miss Dior in tribute to his sister. In 1946 Marcel Boussac, a successful entrepreneur known as the richest man in France, invited Dior to design for Philippe et Gaston, a Paris fashion house launched in 1925. Dior refused, wishing to make a fresh start under his own name rather than reviving an old brand. On 8 December 1946, with Boussac’s backing, Dior founded his fashion house.

I’ve gone through an intense period of transition in my life, in my womanhood. I feel a level of freedom and openness, a desire to explore different sides of my womanhood, which I’m blessed to be able to express through my fashion choices. My stylist always tells me fashion is as exciting as you want to make it. I want to hold space for the expansion of ideas of what fashion can be and who fashion can be for, whether that means wearing more traditionally masculine styles as a woman, or silhouettes not traditionally worn in certain spaces, etc. This season, Chiuri turned to Bohan’s 1961 “Slim Look” collection for inspiration, and she benefitted greatly from this perspective. The collection’s ’60s vibes are stripped of much of the froth that’s been present in so many Dior collections under Chiuri — think voluminous tulle skirts and pleated, diaphanous gowns — in favor of clean lines and and boxy cuts.
