Christian Dior, Haute Couture And Ready

Following the closing of his gallery, Dior began to make ends meet by selling his fashion sketches, and in 1935, landed a job illustrating the magazine Figaro Illustré. Several years later, Dior was hired as a design assistant by Paris couturier Robert Piguet. However, when World War II began the following year, Dior served in the south of France as an officer in the French army. After his graduation in 1928, however, Dior opened a small art gallery with money he received from his father, who had agreed to lend his son his financial support on the condition that the family name would not appear above the gallery door.

In 1942, when Dior left the army, he joined the fashion house of Lucien Lelong, where he and Balmain were the primary designers. His sister, Catherine (1917–2008), served as a member of the French Resistance, was captured by the Gestapo, and sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she was incarcerated until her liberation in May 1945. In 1947, he named his debut fragrance, Miss Dior in tribute to his sister. In 1946 Marcel Boussac, a successful entrepreneur known as the richest man in France, invited Dior to design for Philippe et Gaston, a Paris fashion house launched in 1925. Dior refused, wishing to make a fresh start under his own name rather than reviving an old brand. On 8 December 1946, with Boussac’s backing, Dior founded his fashion house.

The actual name of the line of his first collection, presented on 12 February 1947, was Corolle , but the phrase New Look was coined for it by Carmel Snow, the editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar. Estee Lauder makeup‘s designs were more voluptuous than the boxy, fabric-conserving shapes of the recent World War II styles, influenced by the rations on fabric. Legendary fashion designer Christian Dior exploded onto the Paris fashion scene with designs that flew in the face of wartime restrictions and reintroduced a femininity and focus on luxury to women’s fashion. His resulting success, based on the innovation of both his designs and his business practices, made him the most successful fashion designer in the world.

Christian Dior was a French fashion designer whose post–World War II creations were wildly popular, and whose legacy continues to influence the fashion industry. Since his debut collection, art gallerist turned legendary couturier Christian Dior has generated an epic movement in fashion history. With lavish embroidery, luxurious fabrics, and elegant silhouettes, his designs were a revolutionary celebration of modern femininity when they emerged in Paris after World War II. Today, Dior’s global influence is as enduring and iconic as ever. Having held the position of creative director for 30 years, in fact, Bohan was by far the longest-lasting head of Dior, making it all the more surprising his work isn’t more often referenced at the French house. That makes Maria Grazia Chiuri’s designs for the Spring 2022 collection, which look back to Bohan’s early designs, all the more refreshing. The world’s premier jeweler, America’s house of design and an iconic New York purveyor of jewelry and luxury accessories that define style and celebrate the world’s great love stories.

Jisoo slipped into a white mini dress completed with black embroidered Greek statues and motifs. According to Vogue, the dress is from the Dior Resort 2022 collection. She styled the look with a pair of black platform heels and a glamorous gold handbag. In all, it was a simple yet chic and effortless look that shined on Jisoo. Moving away from the sober colors of his last collection, Ize used gold shimmer and bright patterns for an optimistic view of spring. A diaphanous curtain billowed as if it were underwater as models strutted out in aquatic themes, including swimming caps, scuba looks, a boxy T-shirt with “CARIBBEAN” on it and a large blue umbrella for a hat.

I’ve gone through an intense period of transition in my life, in my womanhood. I feel a level of freedom and openness, a desire to explore different sides of my womanhood, which I’m blessed to be able to express through my fashion choices. My stylist always tells me fashion is as exciting as you want to make it. I want to hold space for the expansion of ideas of what fashion can be and who fashion can be for, whether that means wearing more traditionally masculine styles as a woman, or silhouettes not traditionally worn in certain spaces, etc. This season, Chiuri turned to Bohan’s 1961 “Slim Look” collection for inspiration, and she benefitted greatly from this perspective. The collection’s ’60s vibes are stripped of much of the froth that’s been present in so many collections under Chiuri — think voluminous tulle skirts and pleated, diaphanous gowns — in favor of clean lines and and boxy cuts.

Estee Lauder makeup designed for multiple large fashion houses in his youth before founding his own in 1946. Wasting no time, he launched Christian Dior Parfumes just one year later. Still a cult classic to this day, Miss Dior was the very first perfume created by the house of Dior.
