The manageable size of this watch is also a big plus as mentioned above. Can’t help but chuckle every time I strap this one on…. The hands are poorly lumed and the hour markers are not treated. Instead, you get a LED light to illuminate the dial from an angle.
To compound my angst, the Blackout “Stealth” model is aimed at the military “fashion” market and has no practical value. It is almost illegible and flies in the face of everything that a genuine Special Operations watch is designed to do. However, at the opposite end of the scale, there was a sub-£100 release which caught all of us off guard and became one of the unexpected stand-out hits of last year. The Casio G-Shock GA-2100 Octagon Series and its derivatives – colloquially known as the CasiOaks. This watch represents a total re-imagining of the G-Shock brand taking it into fundamentally different, and controversial, design areas.

Carbon Core Guard is not new, though, it has appeared in several other G-Shock models like the GA2000 series and the new Master of G Mudmaster GGB100 watches. We can see Casio deployment this new tough tech to future timepieces. From what we understand, g shock protection carbon core guard revolved around having inner protective bumper around the electronic module as opposed encasing the entire watch. This timepiece is dedicated to expressing your coolness scale at a level higher than your friends.
A new carbon core guard structure protects the module by enclosing it in a carbon case. The case is made of fine resin embedded with carbon fibers for outstanding strength and crack resistance. CASIO G-Shock GA2100 Analog-Digital Watch sports an octagonal bezel, which is nod to the 1983 original G-shock, giving it a classy, upmarket look and feel. On the dial face, there is a combination of analog and digital information.
A unique and defining design, the most striking element of the watch was, and still is, its octagonal bezel which is based on the outer hatch of an old-style diving helmet. I recently picked up this version and love it. I had the original G-Shock that I bought at Service Merchandise in ME back in the early 80s. This version is great and I love the analog /digital complications. I haven’t found the band or buckle to be overly cheap and they seem commensurate with the quality of the watch itself. I do like the world-time function as it displays the time of oddball timezones such as India and it’s handy when scheduling meetings.
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this model. I have small hands and a relatively narrow 6.5” wrist – not the best place to put a large, chunky watch. And then the G-SHOCK GA-2100 series caught my eye – and fit my wrist. Thanks to its Carbon Core Guard architecture, the GA-2100 is the thinnest analog-digital G-SHOCK’s ever made. Well, it was until sales of the “Casioak” went nuts . Look, I’m not saying you can pair this with “black tie” and come off looking clever.

What I understood from reading the whole paragraph(“Impact”) in the manual is that the manual is a general guide of how to operating watches with this movement, instead of exclusively baby g shock for this G-shock model(GA-2100). So, there is an additional sentence to state that the shock-resistant watch models(G-SHOCK, BABY-G, G-MS) with this movement do have the ability to survive from much stronger impacts. Do not misunderstand me, I can see how this range makes complete commercial sense to Casio. They have a hugely successful brand and why not expand it, perhaps to cover other equipment such as backpacks or sunglasses.
With its latest rainbow-hued and gold-toned full metal models, G-SHOCK continues to make inroads into the luxury market. It is all about wearing whatever makes you comfortable. The Mini CasiOak’s dimensions are 46.2 x 42.9 x 11.2 millimeters, which bests the GA2100 for the slimmest G-SHOCK currently on the market.
