Polo Ralph Lauren Cologne

Either the bottle now is diluted or my memory has diluted. Either way, I do enjoy it now but wish it can be the strong green beast-like in my memory. Polo is here for fans of beautiful, eternal things. Its name awakens association with a closed circle of the chosen and this circle has its rules and traditions. As a truly masculine perfume, Polo does not contain floral notes, apart from camomile, which has more grassy than floral scent. The opening of the composition is green and fresh, made of grassy notes of artemisia, basil and thyme, with spicy notes of cumin, coriander and cloves.

This said, I would never ever wear this. I can’t imagine any occasion that would be suitable for it and it smells way too outdated. The dark grey suit and lace-up leather shoes come next with the tortoise-shell rimmed glasses and that handsome mustache neatly ralph lauren t shirt trimmed. This fragrance is fresh, grassy and pleasant, but I can’t go out smelling as immaculate as, uhm, the Virgin Mary. If my nose had no association with that, I would have loved this for everyday use. It has a great longevity and good sillage.

In 1977, a young Ralph Lauren was challenged by his sensei, Lei Kazuma Kiryuu, to produce a fragrance that would transport the wearer to the men’s room of a Shaolin temple. Lauren reportedly laughed off the idea, but eventually polo dress shirts bet Kiryuu a sack of turnips that he could do just that. One year passed and the result was “Polo for Men,” also known as “Polo Green.” But the drydown is immaculate and slightly tobacco without it being smoky.

This scent still insinuates instant credibility and faux sophistication upon even the most banal and superficially unsophisticated older men. A work of art in its capturing of the alpine forest and a timeless classic original. Nobody should be without this one in their arsenal, as it simply has first rate longevity and character. One of the five most important colognes of the 20th century. Despite being overused and over-worn, still maintains its dignity. It’s not a timeless scent, it is a very specific to its time scent, and that time is gone .

What I really would like to know is in what respects does the “Modern Reserve” differ to the “After Shave” splash on, and the “EDT”? Fragrances like this are a symbol of maturity and a solid strong personality; just made for men that are not looking for compliments but to wear the fragrance they only appreciate and love. Perhaps this sort of thing made a lasting impression on me as a kid – Brut and soap-on-a-rope for Xmas, I don’t know. But I’m learning that the woodsy/green/leathers with earthy patch/vetiver/oakmoss drydowns are usually winners for me.

Today, American men expect fashion to offer everyone the possibility to get multiple use out of the item. For example, clothes must be versatile enough to wear to polo dress shirts work, an event or even out on the weekend- in the glorious Hamptons. Now is the time to display a new vision and a new way of bringing American menswear to life.
