Polo Ralph Lauren Cologne

Not exactly “sexy” positive, but “unique” positive, in a good way. All you need is the ’78 Firebird and to unbutton your shirt revealing a hairy chest to complete the picture. Smells green all day long – if you would like something more cleaner and less daring then floris 1962 is an option. A true Masterpiece of art in fragrance.

The heart is strong and masculine as conifer woods, decorated with notes of patchouli, oakmoss and vetiver. The base contains leather, tobacco and thyme, which create a wonderful, intensive trail. Polo is one of the two first perfumes by Ralph Lauren and it was created by Carlos Benaim in 1978. A classic as other people have stated . My father wore this scent so I have memories associated with polo original. It’s a heavy hitter and should be worn properly .

I don’t know why i was not interested in that perfume. Bought a travel spray out of a gift set. I think polo dress shirts this is what Quorum wants to smell like but is harsher. Distinct scent for a discerning man.

However, as I recall there was a sweet aspect to it back in the day. I have no idea what notes I smelled. I thought this might be one of those frags that I would take some time polo dress shirts to enjoy, but I actually love this one on my initial testing. I haven’t worn it, but usually on skin, fragrances are even better so I’m gonna go ahead and say that I love it.

The nose behind this fragrance is Carlos Benaim.

Either the bottle now is diluted or my memory has diluted. Either way, I do enjoy it now but wish it can be the strong green beast-like in my memory. Polo is here for fans of beautiful, eternal things. Its name awakens association with a closed circle of the chosen and this circle has its rules and traditions. As a truly masculine perfume, Polo does not contain floral notes, apart from camomile, which has more grassy than floral scent. The opening of the composition is green and fresh, made of grassy notes of artemisia, basil and thyme, with spicy notes of cumin, coriander and cloves.

Smells like being bashed around the head with a pine branch. The first fragrance I’ve loved rather than just liked, before I was pretty disillusioned with what was on offer wrt modern fragrances, I think I might favour the older ones. This fragrance screams ‘Grandfather’ to me. It has a very classic scent that smells like a well put together older gentleman. It is a bit dated, but in a classic sense of the word. My only caveat is that the tobacco note is somewhere between the raw dried leaf and smoked cigarette smell.

As long as I live the green-bottled Polo will forever be “my father” in my memory. Now and long after he passes away I will keep a bottle to remind me of him. That said, I’m in my 30’s and I don’t mind wearing this selectively around the holiday season. It will never be a daily go-to or even one that gets more than 2 or 3 wearings in a year for me, but it has it’s place in my collection. This is miles away from playful and easygoing. It is serious, dark, earthy, a bit rough, but also fresh and clean.

Polo lent an air of legitimacy to American made fragrance releases and reasserted it with its clothing line. A truly American original that put American fragrances on the same par with European colognes and re-defined the barriers of the industry. This is a milestone in men’s perfumery. Probably the most classic and the most masculine of all men’s fragrances. I’m only surprised that according to the pyramid, the pine needle and leather notes are in the mid-section, as I feel as though I get a blast of them instantly. That combination, to my nose, are what this perfume is all about – super-fresh pine modified by a soothing, rich brown leather.
