Dyson Link is the Android and iOS mobile app that connects to the 360 Eye. Much the same as the iHome app, you can take full control of the robot vacuum. I found the app clumsy to set up and sync with the network and robot. Once I finally dyson robot vacuum figured it out, the start clean was simple enough, however creating and editing schedules was a chore. Both iRobot and Dyson have mobile apps for their robotic vacuums. Connecting your smart home to your vacuum has never been easier.
The underside reveals a removable and replaceable front brush system and two likely robust and powerful blue wheels. Navigation is generally very good, too – this robot rarely became stuck in tests, particularly when set up correctly with the app.
The 360 Eye came in a fairly dull grey color but the neon blue of the Heurist, borrowed from the popular air conditioning units the company makes, makes for a striking design. It’s personal preference if you want your robot vacuum cleaner to stand out, mind. There are three key disadvantages of your typical robot vacuum cleaner.
For me, the initial position of the dock meant that the 360 Heurist became confused and wouldn’t venture outside of the lounge. Like the Roomba 980 and the Neato Botvac Connected, the 360 Eye is app-enabled. Dyson told me it was trying to steer clear of any software gimmicks, so the app is very basic. You won’t be able to drive your robot on-demand from your phone, for instance. The 360 Eye relies on infrared sensors and a 360-degree standard-definition camera that sits on the top of the vacuum to interpret its surroundings. Dyson offers a two-year guarantee with its Heurist, as iRobot does for its Roomba models.
But expect to empty them every 1-3 runs and you won’t be disappointed. One final hangover from the original remains; its unwillingness to successfully dock and charge after a clean. Frequently, just like a drunk sleeping in his own doorway, the Heurist gets so close to the charger and seems to think, ‘that’ll do’ and just stops.
The Auto mode and multi-room mapping make this vacuum so easy to use. While long runtime and useful mop are great to have at this price too. For those with a particularly busy or big household, robot vacuums can be a godsend. Many now ‘learn’ the layout of rooms throughout the house, letting you set it down and let it go.
It will miss a lot of debris, and in one test on a popular television morning show, it didn’t pick up any dry rice. Back in the old days when we were all young children (2002 – 2014), robot vacuums relied on audio and touch-sensitive sensors to detect objects and obstacles. Dyson claims the Heurist has twice the suction power of any robot cleaner and while I don’t agree that’s entirely true, we will agree that it does suck big time – and, with vacuum cleaners, that’s a good thing. However, the pay-off is worth it in terms of getting a very bespoke cleaning set up arranged for your house. You don’t get this level of detail with any other robot vacuum cleaner. You’ll also notice no brushes sticking out from the edges of the Dyson – cleaning is handled by a motorised brush bar with the same carbon filaments and nylon bristles you’ll find on an upright cleaner from the company.
It proved reliable on carpet but pet hair did get tangled on the brushes. It was slower cleaning a whole room but did a good job, especially considering its price. Choose whether to use a remote, an app or voice control to instruct it. This vac learns as it goes, mapping out the best way to navigate your home while it cleans.
Yet for as long as they’ve been around, robot vacuums have been a little gimmicky, with lots of us feeling unsure of whether they could do a thorough job of cleaning our homes. The 350dia x H91mm lozenge can get right under all but the lowest furniture, and when it moves from hardwood floors to rugs and carpet it boosts bissell crosswave cordless the motor speed for better cleaning results. The twin rubber brush bar is easy to untangle and exceedingly good at picking up pet hair. This bar doesn’t extend right to the edge of the vacuum like they do on the Dyson, but two spinning brushes sweep dust into its path, so it can clean right up to the skirting boards.
