Unlike your typical 2-wheel bike, the 3-wheel Meridian trike uses two chains, the longer primary, and a shorter 50-pin secondary chain. From images on the web, the Schwinn Meridian is an adult tricycle with two chains. Connecting the two chains is a transfer shaft with two sprockets. The bike is apparently a single speed unit with two hand brakes — one on the front wheel and one on the transfer shaft. Presumably there is a freewheel mechanism built into one sprocket on the transfer shaft.
Finally, on the second day after the first 2-mile bike trip, the secondary or rear drive chain slipped off the wheel drive sprocket. That required an almost complete tear down to readjust the connection between the front and back frames, and to really make bolts as tight as possible. The first time we fabricated the trike, the bolts weren’t tight enough. I hope that solves that issue but I keep hearing a clicking sound with I pedal the trike.
To enhance visibility at night and promote safety, the trike features reflectors on the front and rear wheels, on the mudguards and pedals. Now this is one trike that will definitely get a lot of use out of it, particularly for those long rides to the beach or just around the city. It’s not likely to fit into any standard size car if you need to drive to wherever you’re planning to ride. Then you’ll need to attach the rear section of the frame. Next, attach the chain from the frame to the rear section which is what drives the wheels. Finally, you’ll need to attach the wheels and the cargo basket if you choose to.
I live in a town where NO ONE does trikes or bikes, and I don’t have any way to take it somewhere to fix. The only issue I noticed they are facing is the seat issue. If you change seat, maybe you can use it without any problem.
