The floorhead release hinge unlocks with very little effort, making it hard to roll the vacuum around when it’s positioned completely upright. You’ll likely find it easier to move the vacuum from place to place by using the grab handle, which has a rubberized surface to give you a more secure grip. Most of its controls are within easy reach, with its surface mode switch on top of the handle and a detergent trigger just underneath it. The BISSELL CrossWave Cordless Max is a passable option for cleaning staircases.
I then added a squirt of ketchup to see how well it cleaned it up and how well the self-cleaning system performed. Lo and behold, my new floor dynamo completely eradicated the ketchup after just two passes, depositing it all in the dirty water tank which by now resembled the contents of a cesspit. Running the cleaner through on vacuum mode, it picked up most of it when running the head along the skirting. Bissell says that the edge performance is 60% better here than shark cordless on the CrossWave Cordless – and it would appear so; there was just a small trace of dirt left to be collected. It’s much lighter than the BISSELL, easier to maneuver, and makes less noise. You can also configure it as a handheld vacuum to better-clean hard-to-reach areas. Conversely, the BISSELL is a cordless upright vacuum/mop with a detergent-dispersal function to help scrub away dried-on stains. It’s more effective than the Dyson in sucking up debris on bare floors and has a longer battery life, not to mention a much bigger dustbin.
While the cleaning width is shorter on this model, the Cordless Max has a thicker floor brush, allowing greater depth for absorbing dirt. The roller also features a few hard for agitating dirt. I can’t really find anything negative to say about the design of the machine itself or its performance. However I do have one major gripe to mention and it’s the dodgy interface between the machine and the charger-cum-cleaning station. When I first mounted the unit into the cleaning station’s provided port, it refused to engage with the power supply.
