Cast in attractive and elegant geometric forms, ’s eyewear presents a particular sophistication with an undercurrent of charming allure. French fashion house Balmain celebrated the 10-year anniversary of creative director Olivier Rousteing’s tenure with a catwalk show featuring a host of celebrity models including Naomi Campbell, former French First Lady Carla Bruni, Milla Jovovich and Natalia Vodianova. From 1937, Dior was employed by the fashion designer Robert Piguet, who gave him the opportunity to design for three Piguet collections. Dior would later say that ‘Robert Piguet taught me the virtues of simplicity through which true elegance must come.’ One of his original designs for Piguet, a day dress with a short, full skirt called “Cafe Anglais”, was particularly well received. Whilst at Piguet, Dior worked alongside Pierre Balmain, and was succeeded as house designer by Marc Bohan – who would, in 1960, become head of design for Christian Dior Paris.

Estee Lauder NIGHT REPAIR opens a luxury read-to-wear house in New York on Fifth Avenue. The original lines, titled Corolle and Huit, soon garnered the name the New Look and sparked a revolution in the fashion world. Its full-skirted silhouette collection gained Dior prominent clients from across the world. This exhibition is organized by the DAM and curated by Florence Müller, the DAM’s Avenir Foundation Curator of Textile Art and Fashion. It features exhibition design by internationally renowned architect Shohei Shigematsu, principal of OMA New York. Following its run at the DAM, this exhibition will travel to the Dallas Museum of Art.

A Dior star has been fixed to the top of the building as a symbol of good luck from Monsieur Dior. Dior Miami will debut as the first boutique with the star installation in the U.S. The same symbol can also be found on top of Dior boutiques in Omotesando, Tokyo and Seoul, Korea. He heads up the Haute Couture, Fashion Furs, Women’s Ready-to-Wear, Ready-to-Wear and the Women’s Collection collections. Businessman Marcel Boussac integrates the new couture house into a textile business he already operates.

With objects drawn primarily from the Dior archives, the exhibition includes a vast array of over two hundred haute couture garments as well as photographs, archival videos, sketches, vintage perfume elements, accessories, and works from the Museum’s collection. The haute couture on view exemplifies many of the French couturier’s fabled silhouettes, including the “New Look,” which debuted in 1947.
