This has the advantage of a fast, secure connection, and doesn’t require a Wi-Fi connection to be made out in the field. The other big change is in the design of the propellers – they’re now of the quick-release dji drones style, similar to those on the Inspire range of quadcopters. Preparing the Phantom for its first flight requires the battery and propellers to be fitted, but this takes less than a minute.

For aerial cinematography, the Phantom 4 flight modes allow you the capture film from various different flying angles. The Phantom 4 Pro autonomous flight modes, along with new stabilization system and professional 4k camera make this drone an exceptional investment. The fact that you do not have to dig into the menu system but can quickly flick the switch to activate the ATTI mode makes the drone that much safer an aircraft to fly. Very few drones that are on the market today offer you this functionality. A further 32 RF-4Es were transferred to Turkey after being retired by the Luftwaffe between 1992 and 1994.
As for the phantom 4’s still image files themselves, I have to say I was a little disappointed. Whilst the 4k video footage is nothing short of mind blowing, the RAW image files from the Phantom 4 aren’t as impressive. The Phantom 4 features a 1/2.3″ CMOS sensor, allowing it to capture 4k video at 30fps (1080p at 120fps for smooth slow-mo), and 12 mega pixel stills. In daylight flying, as you won’t need to be fiddling around with the ISO, all you need to adjust is the shutter speed to affect your exposure. It took a few flights for me to realise that whilst the battery life was limiting, you really need to slow your actions down whilst flying the Phantom 4. The battery charger can charge both the controller and the drone’s battery at the same time, which is a convenient feature.
Refocusing is also needed when switching from close shots to long shots during recording. The real-time geotagging, plus corrections from a base station on the ground, means unprecedented reliable accuracy for your drone surveys.
