Alongside other personal medical devices, Omron sells a number of different at-home blood pressure monitors, with the prices reflecting the number of features on offer. For this review, I used this monitor three times a day for one week. My morning, afternoon and evening readings proved fairly consistent, but a few readings within those time blocks varied by as much as 22 mmHg.
And the monitor’s corresponding app has low ratings from users who cite an inability to set up different accounts or delete past blood pressure readings. The most important quality of a blood pressure monitor is its accuracy. This is determined by the blood pressure machine itself and the size of the cuff; if the cuff is the wrong size, your reading will be off. In addition, be aware that the conditions under which you measure your blood pressure—from the time omron 5 series of day to your body position to whether you’ve had caffeine—can affect your readings, no matter the machine. The wireless, cuff-and-monitor-in-one Omron Evolv provided consistent readings in our testing, is comfortable and straightforward to use, and is the only one of our picks that can handle unlimited users. However, the on-cuff backlit display is smaller than that of the Greater Goods monitors we recommend, and the numbers can be difficult to read.
The Velcro attachment is strong, but we don’t think it would be unduly challenging for most people. The cuff accommodates arms ranging in circumference from 8¾ to 16½ inches, among the largest range we’ve found in our research. The 0604 is extremely quiet—it sounds like a refrigerator hum if you’re within a couple omron 3 series inches of it, and it shouldn’t disturb someone across the room. Its large, backlit display is easy to read, but readings stay on the screen for only a minute or so after delivery. The machine does, however, instantly send your results to the app, making daily, weekly, monthly, or annual averaging a simple task.
I tested several more at-home blood pressure monitors that also had some great features, but didn’t quite match up to the ones above. They’re definitely worth checking out if you’re in the market for an at-home blood pressure monitor — although the above products proved the best for me, you might find a unique combo of characteristics that’s best for you. I can, however, say that it produced consistent readings despite being way too big for my arm. So, even though the blood pressure level readings were wrong for me, they were consistently wrong.
