Cuisinart Clermont Pellet Grill

Memphis Grills’s Elite model is the Rolls Royce of pellet smokers. The grill packs some impressive features and spec, but what really makes it the best pellet grill is build quality. The Elite is made of 100% dual-walled, sealed stainless steel. This premium construction means it can sit your backyard for years without rusting, but it also cultivates the tastiest meals possible. For starters, we must comment that this grill didn’t have any of the bells and whistles we found on most of the other pellet grills we tested. Instead of a digital control panel, it had a turn dial that allowed us to set the temperature in 25-degree increments.

So in general, most pellet cookers will use between 1-2 lbs per hour when smoking. With insulated pellet cookers such as the Kamado Joe Pellet Joe, pellet consumption while smoking could actually be under 1lb per hour. Back in 2007 when I first become aware of pellet grills and smokers the only brand I was really aware of was Traeger. Traeger is really where this whole concept of cooking with pellets started in the 1980s. It was a ‘slow burner’ but since the 2010s is really when pellet grills and smokers started to get mainstream awareness, discussed alongside gas and charcoal grills.

The wings burned on the right side of the grill while cooking perfectly on the left. We’ve tested many Weber grills over the years, but they’ve never sold a pellet grill until the Weber SmokeFire. We tested both the first- and second-generation Weber SmokeFire grills . While some pellet grills can be found under $500, most range between $1,000 and $2,000 depending on the size and features. They have more moving parts than other types of grills, and controlling the temperature is a bit more complicated than a grill that uses dials or vents. A thermostat and an onboard computer control the grill’s auger, fan, and ignition system.

When set to 450°F, the right side of the grill was significantly hotter than the left side, burning the wings on part of the grill before the other side cooked. This pellet grill did a fantastic job of holding temperatures at higher temps. Our chicken wings cooked evenly throughout the grill and resulted in a perfectly crispy exterior when set to 500°F. Unfortunately, the Cuisinart struggled a little with holding low temperatures, and we had to set the grill to 210°F to maintain an even 225°F for the brisket. It didn’t produce as much smoke as some of the other grills, either, but it did result in a juicy and flavorful brisket.

After building each grill, we ran it through cuisinart clermont pellet grill & smoker cover the initial burn-off process specified in each owner’s manual. This process removes any machine packing oils and ensures the auger and fire pot work properly. Then, we cycled the grill on and off dozens of times to test ignition times and see if there were any issues with the pellet auger system.

Finally, we assessed each grill’s aesthetics and build quality, looking to see if it wheeled around easily without rattling and whether it was built to last. We also factored in if the grease tray was easy to clean, grill grate design, and the location of side tables. If the grill included a built-in probe thermometer, we used that to measure the meat’s internal temperature as it cooked. We also used a ThermoWorks ChefAlarm to double-check the built-in probe’s accuracy.

First off, there are very few cuts of meat that would require a 20 hour+ cook time. However, in the case of the Cuisinart Clermont 1-2 lbs per hour is more realistic.
