6 out of 5 scent when you remind yourself that this was when things were really good and perfume houses were in their ascendancy. Fragrantica is a complete joke at this point. An Intense flanker of this fragrance has been on sale for at least 2 weeks at this point and was announced more than a month ago, and it STILL does not have a page on Fragrantica. polo dress shirts This is a massive fragrance release, but Fragrantica is too busy talking about the “fragrance brands” that are founded from hipsters’ garages in Seattle and Portland every week. I really want to re-experience the vintage version of this that all the boys in school wore the year it came out, but it’s so darn expensive, it’ll have to wait.
The pine isn’t terribly realistic, but it smells nice. As time goes on, I can pick up powder, leather, and tobacco. Such an outstanding and iconic green classic.
It is a powerful antidote to watery, fresh scents; wholly masculine with a unique register of notes. I get the juniper berry, the pine, Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt basil & artemisa, all of which make this very dark, green, and herbal. The other spices and notes are blended together beautifully.
Mainly it seems very green, fresh, and spicy. Women check the cleanliness of men by the odor within the very first seconds. They like it if men smell clean, but not like a lemon. If you have passed that test, she is checking the sexual attraction next, subconsciously. Polo creates a green, clean aura around you, with pine-tree needles, green notes, tobacco, and leather which is very manly without being annoying and dry.
Lately, it seems like every other fragrance either smells too much alike, doesn’t perform or starts out unique and then simmers down to the same old base notes. I find echoes of Polo in Tom Ford’s Patchouli Absolu, but the notes are entirely different. Even so, no surprise that the latter is now my go to scent on the basis that it is redolent of that lush green intoxicating Polo of my youth. I think this fragrance is genius, and, smelled without any period associations, is an amazing, unique smell. Conifers and forests, Scottish heather and golf courses. Pino Silvestre is an ancestor as their both “pine” scents.

The original Polo has been my father’s signature and preferred scent since its original launch when he was a teenager! Since I was a small child I loved the smell because it IS my daddy.
