If else fails get a dremel and cut the nut on opposite sides, on the flats , place an open end – crescent wrench over the two cut sides and give it a spin, it will break the nut. Anyway, here I doubt it’s the case of heavy duty tools, but a socket wrench on 1/2″ system is the best tool for the job. Also bear in mind that the tool means 50% of the job done.
