Affordable tent, easy to set up, but the poles are very cheap and do not last. I know we didn’t pay a lot for it at Wal-mart but I thought we would get more than one time use. Replaced poles cuz I lost them, and they were less than $7 at Wal-mart, where I originally purchased.
Cabin-style straight wall tent designs provide more lateral space, sure, but a dome tent is better against the wind. The rounded sides make this tent well suited to withstand strong winds. What I particularly like about this family tent is that although it’s a large tent, it’s more of a dome-style construction. Most of the larger tents are cabin-style, meaning they have walls that are angled straight up. This 10 person tent is a whopping 20’ by 10’ and splits into three rooms.
Some pros of Ozark Trail tents are that they are affordable for almost anyone and are easy to find in your local Walmart or online. Walmart has built its reputation on quantity—and not necessarily quality—at low prices, so it’s reasonable to have questions about what you are getting with an Ozark Trail tent. They might not be great for winter camping, and they’re not rated for hurricane-force rains, but they will give you a great camping experience in fairer weather.
The poles are not color-coded, but the pole sleeves are. Drape the rain fly over the tent so that the side with the pole sleeve is pointed down against the tent. Flex the ridge pole and secure each end by slipping it into a grommet that is built into the rain fly. If you’re looking to save money but still want that cabin tent experience, the Ozark Trail 10-Person Two-Room Cabin is tough to beat. If you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks (emphasis on few), the Ozark Trail 9-Person Cabin with a screen room gives some added livability at a similar price point. As stated above, durability and materials are the main pain point of Ozark Trail tents.
Yes, about 3 months ago, one of the tent poles split and just last weekend another one split. I am looking at the price to replace the tent poles. Light wind and rain should be fine, but you’ll want to take some steps to prepare for both (more on that below). It’s a cool tent all around, but our favorite feature has to be the 360-degree views delivered courtesy of this yurt’s giant mesh windows. You might like to know that the windows are with zippers so you can keep the panels at any height to regulate the amount of light and privacy.
